//Andrei Romanescu, Veeam Software: 2018 Year in Review

Worldwide, Veeam registered its 12th consecutive year of double-digit growth. Veeam now has more than 330,000 customers, including 82% of the Fortune 500 companies, and 66% of the Global 2000. Our alliances with Cisco, HPE and NetApp have increased in 2018 and our fastest growing segment was Cloud, thus expanding our leadership in Cloud Data Management.

In Romania, where our revenue comes mainly from customers operating in the banking, utilities, IT/ software development and manufacturing/ automotive industries, we saw double digit growth in 2018. This has been a consistent trend over the last few years – with our results being above the industry average.

We have grown our team from 0 to more than 400 people in less than 3 years (we’re approaching the 500 employees’ milestone), and this is a good example of a success story on this market. Over the first years of activity in Romania, aside from increasing our headcount, we also added new services and new lines of business, such as Technical Support capabilities and a N2WS dedicated team in Bucharest (earlier in 2018, the acquisition of N2WS has allowed Veeam to strengthen its ability to protect AWS workloads).

We dedicated more efforts to consolidating our #Veeamazing place to work – #Veeamazing is the sum of all our efforts to offer our employees a modern workplace, benefits adapted to their needs, perks like massage in the office and free coffee, snacks and fruit, but also a clear career path and the tools and training they need to become the best professionals.

This year, globally, Veeam is focused on expanding the company’s leadership in Cloud Data Management by delivering new competencies in three key areas: cloud data retention; cloud mobility; and security and compliance.

At the beginning of 2019, Insight Venture Partners has invested $500 million with strong participation from strategic investor Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) to accelerate the next phase of Veeam’s growth.

In Romania, after 3 years since opening our first office, we’re getting close to having 500 employees. Our current office can accommodate up to 500 people, so we plan on opening a new one, for an additional 250 people.

Our growth will continue in 2019, with hiring more sales and technical profiles. For Inside Sales, we are starting to open our doors to entry-level positions, looking for people who speak various foreign languages and are interested in starting their career in sales in a professional manner – Veeam is a great sales school. And, to align with the market conditions we see in Romania, this summer we are also launching an accelerated development program dedicated to recent graduates looking to jumpstart their career in sales – with access to both theoretical and practical training.

Probably the biggest challenge now remains the search for quality candidates in a market where the demand continues to outpace the supply. This fuel a highly competitive environment for all the players in the market engaged in the race to attract talent.

Although we have been focusing on an Employer Branding strategy for some time, we have intensified even more our Employer Branding efforts, to ensure higher visibility, to facilitate direct contact between the candidates and the company, to promote our culture and enhance the touchpoints with potential candidates.

A message to my colleagues in Veeam: Thank you for bringing us this far! These 3 and a half years, since we first started, have been an incredible race to get to the best talent, to recruit it, onboard it, and create the working environment they need in order to be motivated and perform according to Veeam’s standards of excellence.

Every person who is – or was at some point – a part of our team has made his/her contribution on our growth story.

A message to the industry: Let’s continue our efforts to create added value and efficiency, to increase automation, to generate more effectiveness. This is truly the only way forward. Our industry has come a long way, since its beginnings in 2000. We’ve grown tremendously over these past 15 years, we’ve created a reputation for ourselves based on our professionalism and on the quality of the services we offer.

As an industry, we have the potential to grow even more and thus be one of the first 2 or 3 countries in the region in terms of attractiveness for the Business Services Industry.
