Inga Turcanu, AR Collection Analyst – Dover Business Services

I’m Inga Turcanu, AR Collection Analyst for Latin Countries at DOVER BUSINESS SERVICES (DBS Bucharest), a Global Shared Service Centre specialising in Finance and Accounting.

How did you start your career? Which were your first steps? How did you envision your career?

I dreamed of becoming a lawyer, but everything changed when I moved to Romania from my native country, Moldova. I started as a legal assistant, I did translations, exports, and blogs.

I’ve been with Dover Business Services since August 2022. From the beginning, I understood that this was a place where I could grow and develop myself. Here we are surrounded by professionals who are eager to teach us, to share their experience, and to build together in order to grow together.

What were your key career moments?

The key career moment… I’ll mention here our “family expat life”. During my 5 years of expatriation in France and Russia, I was able to learn, understand, and discover the different ways of working and thinking according to the local culture. I participated in several voluntary activities. Thanks to the international environment, I have developed a diversified network of rich profiles that have helped me grow a lot.

What are the three most valuable career lessons you have learnt?

Firstly, the ability to listen and the thirst to learn from people who are ready to share with me, no matter the experience or the age between us.

Secondly, to be my best self, to set goals, not just dreams.

The third is to be grateful for what I have.

What were the top 3 reasons for choosing your company?

DOVER BUSINESS SOLUTION is a part of DOVER Corporation, which delivers selected transactional services in finance. Modern management and the best quality services.

  1. From the beginning of the recruitment process, I had the feeling that “this is the company where I belong”. Dover came into the Romanian market with a different approach… investing in people, empowering growth. The concept of the company is to work together – grow together.
  2. At DOVER, any idea can become a project. Empathy, open-mindedness, and the digitization process are part of our teamwork.
  3. Our team is diverse: different cultures, religions, ages, and passions, but we are all united by the same values.

I’m proud to be part of Dover, happy to find my place, and happy to meet amazing people.

Tell us a little bit about your private life: your passions, family. What do you do to relax?

I am a wife and the mother of two children: a 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy. We are a family and a team. We enjoy doing a lot of activities together, such as travelling and learning from each other.

When they are playing video games (which are not my passion), I like baking pastry.

I enjoy documentary movies, biographical books, historical buildings (in order to discover the secrets between the walls), and hiking because the clean air and the mountain view help me to unwind and relax.

Interior design and travel are my passions. I would like to see the Northern Lights (aurora borealis), which I think is one of the wonders of the world. Regarding design, I’m most passionate about the industrial approach, as I find that raw materials are the ones closest to nature.

If now you were starting your career, knowing the present and near future opportunities, what would you do?

I wouldn’t change a thing because everything I’ve been through has made possible the life I live now. The thing that I consider the best in a career is to work with and for nice people, which I currently have.

What are the top 3 skills that you would develop?

  • Public speaking
  • Financial education
  • Leadership

Actually, I’m working on it: Stephen R. Covey’s book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” helps a lot.

What would you do and what would you avoid doing?—practical advice to young professionals

What to do? – To be curious, passionate, creative, and committed. Start with small steps and work towards big dreams.

What to avoid? – Staying in a place where you are not appreciated. Don’t search for a job, look for a good management /environment.

Paul Padureanu, AP Team Leader – Dover Business Services

I’m Paul Padureanu, AP Team Leader at DOVER BUSINESS SERVICES EUROPE (Bucharest Centre), a Global Shared Service Center specialising in Finance and Accounting.

How did you start your career? Which were your first steps? How did you envision your career?

When I was younger, I was more attracted to workplaces that did not require sitting behind a desk. I spent some time on cruise ships, as this allowed me to combine work with travelling.

As time went by, I realised that I needed to start thinking differently about my future, so I decided to try something new. I have always been attracted to numbers, so I applied for an internship in Accounts Payable. I had no experience, so I had no expectations – it started as a temporary job, but it turned out to be a long and impressive journey.

What were your key career moments?

Corporate life grew on me; I really enjoyed the Accounts Payable world, however, I was not finding the courage to make a step further and take on more responsibility. Everything changed when my managers started pushing me to do more and work towards a team leader role; their trust in my skills allowed me to expand my vision and take risks.

What are the three most valuable career lessons you have learnt?

Never be afraid to take chances; even if you don’t always win, you will gain experience that will help you grow.

Everything can be taught and/or learned; all you need is a strong will.

It’s ok to break the rules for a good purpose.

Why did you choose Business Services Industry?

I have spent many years working for a BPO company, learning and understanding the world of externalised services. To have a more complete view of corporate life, I wanted to also experience life in a company that is not ruled by customers but can follow its own vision and principles.

What were the top 3 reasons for choosing your company?

  1. The opportunity to be involved in the process transitions and to have a saying in the process design, stabilisation, and optimisation.
  2. The fact that Dover Business Services Europe is a shared service centre, not a BPO.
  3. A very good experience within the recruitment process.

Tell us a little bit about your private life: your passions, family. What do you do to relax?

I enjoy driving; I like cars and the feeling that I have when I am behind the wheel. This is why I try to even choose holiday destinations that can be reached by car because this brings me great pleasure.

I like trying out new things, and I can never refuse a challenge. I try to avoid the routine and enjoy exploring new ideas that require “putting my brain to work”.

If now you were starting your career, knowing the present and near future opportunities, what would you do?

I would keep the same career path; I believe that all experiences helped me shape the person that I am today, both at a personal and a professional level.

What are the top 3 skills that you would develop?

  • Management skills
  • Financial education
  • Customer centricity

What would you do and what would you avoid doing?—practical advice to young professionals

Be open to whatever is coming your way, even if it’s not stated in your job description. At the beginning of your journey, everything is a learning opportunity. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Avoid staying in a role or job where you are no longer learning or growing. Comfort is tempting, but it is not beneficial in the long run.
