In Romania, Amazon presence was first established in 2005, in Iasi, by opening Amazon’s Development Center, Amazon’s first R&D facility in Eastern Europe. It plays a major role in the city’s burgeoning tech industry, employing skilled experts who are inventing exciting new technologies in the fields of Cloud Computing, Information Security, Machine Learning and Data Analysis. The Center hosts Compliance Operations, Retail Business Support, Creative Ops & Production, Imaging Support, Customer Behavior Analytics, Information Security & Privacy, Compliance Tech, AWS Global IT and Content Creation Tools. In 2017 a second corporate presence was established in Romania’s capital. The Amazon Development Center Bucharest is home to Speech and Language Solutions for Alexa, Alexa Product Testing, as well as Amazon Web Services (AWS) teams working on key technologies for the Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2) service. In 2021, Amazon Development Center’s story continues with the latest office in Timisoara, which focuses on the Amazon Devices line, (including Ring security devices) and Amazon Compliance Operations.
