Formed by the merger of Office Depot and OfficeMax, Office Depot, Inc. is a leading global provider of products, services, and solutions for every workplace – whether your workplace is an office, home, school, or car. Office Depot is a resource and a catalyst to help customers work better. We are a single source for everything customers need to be more productive, including the latest technology, core office supplies, print and document services, business services, facilities products, furniture, and school essentials. The Shared Service Center (SSC) in Cluj-Napoca was opened in August 2007 with the purpose of supporting Office Depot’s financial operations at a pan-European level. The Cluj SSC is the first of this kind Office Depot has opened in the world and it is the only office the company has in Romania. The SSC has a social shared capital about 4.2 million euro and an annual turnover of 9.4 million euros, that brings over 950.000 euros as taxes for the Romanian state.

The 450 people in the Romanian team support in 6 languages operations for 11 countries: UK & Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg. The team manages the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes: recording and approving invoices from vendors, to processing payments and to managing suppliers relations; managing risk by auditing new accounts, process orders on hold, establishing and monitoring the credit limits of the clients, and also collecting and allocating cash from outstanding accounts. During the years, the team has taken on other finance processes, such as general ledger, financial analysis, treasury, and rebates.

Although 80% of our scope is still finance-related, the SSC has gradually extended its area of operations to other departments and today’s landscape entails sales operations, vendor and client master data management, e-commerce operations, IT application implementation and support, business process improvement, and project management. Since 2009, the company gave over 80,000 EUR to charity.
