ABSL: The Impact of Digitalization on the Brasov Job Market

The Association of Business Service Leaders in Romania (ABSL) is organizing the Business Mixer “Embracing Change in the Current Business Services Industry” in Brasov, bringing together over 60 industry specialists from the local market. Brasov holds a significant position in the business services industry due to its strong business culture, proximity to Bucharest, and a high number of German-speaking professionals.

During the event, companies discuss the sector’s evolution in 2024 and perspectives for 2025, the impact of recent legislative and fiscal changes on the labour market, as well as how companies engage with the community and create well-being initiatives for employees. One of the most important topics on the agenda is technology’s role in shaping the labour market.

“In an increasingly competitive global industry, Romania must develop more complex, high-value-added services based on digitalization and cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence solutions. As labour market demands evolve, digital skills will become just as important as creativity, teamwork, proactivity, and adaptability, all essential for addressing future challenges,” explains Ciprian Dan, ABSL President.

According to ABSL’s latest report, HR, Finance & Accounting, and Customer Operations are the most commonly provided services by business services companies in Brasov. The evolution of employees providing these services is closely linked to technological advancements, offering numerous opportunities for professional growth.

For those pursuing a career in HR within the business services industry, advanced digital skills will become increasingly crucial, as many processes— such as payroll, benefits management, performance evaluation, and recruitment—are expected to become fully automated or technology-driven.

Financial services will continue to expand, leading to an increase in job opportunities within this field. Over the next few years, demand for financial analysts specializing in data analysis is expected to rise. Additionally, most finance department roles will require solid knowledge of blockchain technology, which is not yet widespread but is anticipated to gain importance.

Customer operations services remain among the most in-demand in the industry; however, process automation has led to a profound transformation, by enabling faster request processing and improved efficiency.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, digitalization and technological advancements are driving a higher demand for highly skilled professionals. Between 2018 and 2030, the number of qualified professionals is expected to grow by 60%. Additionally, 42% of all working hours will involve automation and digitalization, and 1 in 2 employees will require career reskilling.

“Our research shows that up to 40% of working hours across all fields, from business and financial operations to management, will be impacted by generative AI transformation. That’s why developing AI-related skills is becoming absolutely essential. Completely new roles will emerge in fields like AI quality control and prompt engineering.Recently, we’ve seen the rise of business process transformation roles that leverage AI. At Accenture, we offer reskilling and upskilling programs to ensure all our employees are prepared for the Gen AI revolution,” says Raluca Burghelea, Country Managing Director, Accenture Romania.

According to the ABSL report, the business services market in Brașov is expected to grow by at least 10% in terms of employment this year.

“In Brasov, we are recruiting primarily for roles in finance, accounting, and HR during 2024-2025. Nationally, in addition to these fields, we are also hiring for positions in sales operations, procurement, IT, and Digital Engineering,” adds Raluca Burghelea, Country Managing Director, Accenture Romania.

According to ABSL, approximately 200,000 professionals are currently employed in Romania’s business services industry, with over 3% based in Brașov.
